Jacob Thomsen
Jacob Thomsen specialises in insurance law, the law of damages, procedural law and dispute resolution. He has a right of audience before the Danish Supreme Court and is a certified arbitrator. Jacob provides trusted advice to Danish and foreign insurance companies and business enterprises on insurance matters and dispute resolution.
Jacob is particularly experienced in commercial and product liability insurance, product recall insurance, property and contents insurance as well as transaction insurance.
Jacob has been involved in resolving several disputes before arbitration tribunals and the Danish courts concerning insurance coverage as well as contractual and non-contractual liability. In that relation, he has gained extensive experience in handling complex cases concerning contractual liability, product liability, management liability and accountants’ liability.
Jacob has co-authored publications published in journals such as Erhvervsjuridisk Tidsskrift (a Danish commercial-law periodical). He has lectured in the law of damages at continuing legal education courses for attorneys.

- Jacob acted for the auditors of Roskilde Bank in the proceedings against Finansiel Stabilitet, which had made a claim for damages of more than DKK 1bn. The proceedings were particularly complex due to their scope and precedent-setting issues of liability for auditors and management.
- Jacob is acting for a supplier in related cases concerning the use of magnesium-oxide boards (MgO boards) as air barriers in the Danish construction industry. The related cases involve precedent-setting issues of impacting the allocation of liability when building materials turn out to be unsuitable for their purpose.
- Jacob is acting for a property company in a case regarding fire insurance coverage, which concerns precedent-setting issues of the interpretation of the rules of increase of risk set out in the Danish Insurance Contracts Act.
